Tense moments for the Boynton Beach Police Department on Thursday when a woman walked in and told officers she had two grenades in her car.

She told officers she had acquired the grenades after her father died so she brought them to the police department hoping officers could assist her in disposing of them.

After it was confirmed the devices were actually in the woman's vehicle, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Bomb Squad unit was called out. The department, parking lot and a nearby fire station were all evacuated and a nearby road was blocked off to traffic.

Ultimately, both grenades were deemed to be inert, meaning they wouldn't detonate and the all clear was given.

Boynton Beach Police Chief Joe DeGiulio says that if you find grenades, don't bring them to the police. Call 911 and they will come to you.
